100% Darjeeling

Deepali's Darjeeling is 100% Darjeeling tea, with no other tea in the mix.

This Darjeeling Logo on the packaging guarantees that it is 100% Darjeeling Tea from Darjeeling, unlike tea that until recently could be sold as Darjeeling Tea with only 51% of Darjeeling Tea.

According to the Tea Board of India – ‘Darjeeling Tea’ can only refer to tea that has been cultivated, grown, produced, manufactured and processed in tea gardens (enumerated in the‘Tea Estates’ section) located in particular hilly areas within the District of Darjeeling in the State of West Bengal, India, on picturesque steep slopes of over 4000 ft (c.1200 m) in height.

Tea which has been processed and manufactured in a factory located in the aforesaid area has a distinctive aroma with light tea liquor and a delicate fragrance.

The annual tea production of Darjeeling is estimated at only 10,000 tonnes, including local consumption. whereas in 2004, the amount of tea sold as Darjeeling worldwide exceeded 40,000 tonnes.

To combat this situation, the Tea Board of India administers the Darjeeling certification mark and logo (above).   Protection of this tea designation is similar in scope to the protected designation of origin used by the EU for Champagne and many European cheeses for example,

Darjeeling Tea cannot be grown or manufactured anywhere else in the world.
